Multi-genre entertainer P Maru-sama and cosplayer Enako have joined forces for an up-tempo opening theme song, "Identeitei Meltdown." Enako expressed her excitement by saying that Identeitei Meltdown is a cute duet we sing. This energetic song will enhance the anime's vibrant mood.
Complementing the opening, the ending theme song, "Himegoto * Cry Sisters," is performed by the "Onimai Sisters," consisting of the main characters' voice actresses: Marika Kōno, Kaori Ishihara, Hisako Kanemoto, and Minami Tsuda. CD singles for both songs are set to be released on February 15, further building on the hype.
P Maru-sama also shared his enthusiasm, stating, "The song is energetic and adorable! I'm thrilled to collaborate with Enako-san. We're both excited about the anime's premiere! This enthusiasm will also be reflected in the storyline, which offers a fresh take on themes of gender and identity."
Based on Nekotofu's original manga, the anime series follows the life of Mahiro Oyama, a recluse who suddenly transforms into a woman due to his younger sister Mihari's scientific experiment gone wrong. Now, Mahiro has to navigate life anew in this unfamiliar form. Kodansha Comics, publishing the manga digitally in English, describes it as a story where "life is going to get a whole lot weirder." As mentioned earlier, the musical themes are designed to complement this compelling narrative.
Under director Shingo Fujii's helm, the series features scripts by Michiko Yokote and character designs by Ryo Imamura. Production company EGG FIRM is producing the series, ensuring top-notch animation quality. This high production value is essential for conveying the depth of the characters and the complexities of the anime's themes.
Further expanding on its international availability mentioned in the opening paragraph, the anime made its grand premiere on January 5, 2023, and its first episode, "Mahiro's Confusing New Body," is already available for Crunchyroll Premiere members in various regions, including North America, Central America, South America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and the CIS.
The ONIMAI series questions traditional gender roles and expectations while delivering a healthy dose of humor. As Mahiro grapples with his new reality, viewers can expect a roller-coaster ride of emotions, further heightened by the series' catchy opening and ending themes. Whether you're in it for the music, the comedy, or the existential quandaries, ONIMAI: I'm Now Your Sister! promises to deliver on all fronts.
